Benjamin Albertson, the Wittgow Family Scholar 2017-2018
Benjamin Albertson, harpist, has performed as a harpist for over eight years. Benjamin has served under great conductors such as Gerard Schwartz, Giancarlo Guerrero, Christoph Eschenbach, and Kensho Watanabe. Benjamin's recent performances include his third year participating in the Marrowstone Music Festival in Bellingham, and his Carnegie Hall debut with NYO2, a division of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. Benjamin has performed with orchestras such as the Seattle Youth Symphony, the All-Northwest Orchestra, and in a side-by-side performance with the Philadelphia Orchestra. As an accomplished youth harpist, Benjamin has won the Washington Music Educators Association Solo and Ensemble Competition in the harp division for two consecutive years. Benjamin has also received the Mercer Island Orchestra Festival Certificate of Commendation, and the Mason's Daylight Lodge Certificate of Appreciation. Benjamin also enjoys playing as a chamber soloist, performing pieces such as Ravel's Introduction and Allegro. Currently, Benjamin studies with Kippy Lou Scott and Heidi Lehwalder. This year, Benjamin will be applying to conservatories including the Glenn Gould School of Music, the New England Conservatory of Music, and the Juilliard School, among others. Benjamin aspires to become a professional harpist, hoping to work in a variety of musical ventures including chamber touring, a professorship, and an orchestral appointment.
