ACCOUNTANT
Position Title: Accountant
Position Summary: The Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely entry of Olympia Symphony Orchestra financial activity, generating reports as requested by the Executive Director or Board Treasurer. The position will support the annual development and approval of the OSO operating budget, and provide regular updates on the actual results throughout the fiscal year.
Principal Job Duties:
1. Financial Entry and Reporting

Obtain income and expense activities from OSO staff, utilizing Quickbooks Online to enter data into relevant accounts and provide monthly detailed reports for review and adjustment as needed.

Organize and manage physical and online financial files and documents.

Track payable invoices and generate checks for signature by authorized signers to ensure timely payment of OSO obligations.

Generate final monthly activity reports and financial position statements for presentation to the Board of Directors and other committees as requested including notes on significant variances and issues requiring attention.

Produce and analyze detailed line item reports for all areas of the organization while preparing for the annual budget writing process.

Maintain accurate records for accounts receivable, fixed assets, and accruals; provide monthly account reconciliations.

Monitor cash flow, and recommend cash management actions to the Executive Director and OSO Finance Committee.

2. Employee Payroll, Tax and Reporting Requirements

Process payroll at predetermined intervals after receiving hours and payment information approved by the Executive Director and General Manager. Ensure proper entry and tracking of all required federal, state and local tax withholding.

Maintain current records on employees and contractors and provide required annual tax forms to employees and vendors each January.

Organize fiscal year financial results for submission to the outside preparer in time to file the annual IRS Form 990.

Interface with software vendors and state and federal agencies as needed to ensure correct filing and resolve issues.

A focused, independent worker who is adept at working in a small nonprofit staff.

Familiarity with best practices in nonprofit financial data entry and reporting, separation of duties.

Skilled at explaining and discussing complex financial information, systems, and reporting requirements with a high level of attention to detail.

The ability to build strong relationships and healthy communication within a small staff.
Qualifications:

Associates Degree in Accounting, or a related field.
-
At least three years’ work experience in a financial role; nonprofit accounting experience preferred.

Fluency in QuickBooks Online and payroll processing systems- experience with Paylocity preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Drive programs.

Familiarity with state and federal tax reporting and employment regulations.

A high level of integrity, confidentiality, and accuracy.​​

Supervisory & Supporting Relationships:
This position reports to the Board of Directors through the interim Executive Director. The Accountant also works closely with the Board Treasurer, General Manager, and other key staff positions.

Hours & Working Conditions:
This is a part-time hourly position estimated to average 8-16 hours per week throughout the year. Hours will vary based on activity throughout the season. Pay is $26-30/hour DOE. Duties are performed via remote access to computer systems, conference calls, and on-site work in an office environment.
